Key takeaways from the 19-20 Premier League Season

Premier League Clubs Approve Phase Three of Project Restart - The ...

The 2019-20 Premier League season has finally ended. It was a roller-coaster ride. At one point it seemed that the season would have been deemed null and void, but Project Restart has been a success. Here are some key takeaways from the just concluded Premier League season(in no particular order) :-

1.     Liverpool Champions!

2020-21 Premier League season to begin on September 12 - Football365

In the 2018-19 season, Liverpool amassed 97 points and still could not win the league. People thought that their motivation would not be there this season but Jurgen Klopp has prepared a winning machine, winning 32 matches. They have been very consistent throughout the season and have won the first Premier League title in the club’s rich history.

2.  2 . Manchester United, Chelsea make top 4

Match Rewind result: Watch Man Utd 4 Chelsea 0 in full ...

At the beginning of the season, both teams were in disarray and had managers who were inexperienced at the highest level. Moreover, Chelsea had a transfer ban imposed on them. Both teams made the top 4 on the last matchday despite having a topsy-turvy season. New players such as Pulisic, wan Bissaka and Bruno Fernandes have made a huge impact while others such as Rashford, Giroud, Willian and Martial have had good seasons.

3.     Sheffield United finish in the top half

Premier League: Sheffield United Manager Chris Wilder Stresses on ...

Chris Wilder has built a team, in the truest sense of the term. With no standout performers, they were tipped to go down by the bookies but not only did they stay up, but also finished 9th. They were good defensively, and scored very few. They won 14 matches and surprised everyone. At one point it seemed they might get into Europe as well, which didn’t happen but they have massively punched above their weight.

4.     Is Brendan Rodgers a verified Bottler?

Leicester's Jamie Vardy wins Premier League Golden Boot | Football ...

He first couldn’t win the league with Liverpool in the 13-14 season, and now, with Leicester, who were in the Champions League places for almost the whole season, fail to get top 4. According to us, it is a bottling but he did better than what was expected of him. Vardy was the shining light in the Leicester team and won the golden boot. We will see them in the Europa League next season.

5.     Relegation for the Hornets and the Cherries

AFC Bournemouth v Watford: Two of bottom three do battle

While Norwich have been abysmal, Watford and Bournemouth got relegated in the final day of the season. Bournemouth didn’t really play well throughout the season and with the team and manager they have, they can come back up easily. Watford’s sacking of Nigel Pearson was truly shocking. Without him, they would have been relegated much earlier. He took the battle to the end and got sacked.

Manchester United VS Chelsea : Preview

Manchester United welcome Chelsea to the Theatre of Dreams. This fixture brings back memories of Frank Lampard’s first match as Chelsea manager when Ole’s reds smashed the blues 4-0. A lot has happened since for both teams but the circumstances leading up to the game are somewhat similar. Manchester United are inconsistent as they had been. Similarly, Chelsea are a team which is trying to find their feet and sort themselves out.  Manchester United, in their midweek Champions League clash against Paris Saint Germain, won via a late Marcus Rashford goal(yes, again!). Manchester United have been wildly inconsistent in the Premier League so far, and have not won two games in a row. They destroyed Newcastle 4-1 at St. James’s Park in their last match but in their previous fixture, Tottenham decimated them 6-1 at home. Their defence, which has been suspect even after expensive reinforcements, somehow conceded only one goal at the hands of Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria, which ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL : PREVIEW

Bayern Munich and PSG meet in Europe's most prestigious competition final in Lisbon on Sunday. Both teams having won all domestic crowns on offer, are gunning to flaunt an illustrious treble for the season. With both squads bragging such destructive attacking talent, the game might be decided by the team who defends better. A first Champions League final for PSG, who seem to finally reap the dividends of spending millions, against an accomplished Bayern side, looking for their 6th Champions League, the stage is set for a jaw dropping game. PLAYERS TO MISS OUT PSG Laywin Kurzawa is still out due to a thigh injury. First choice keeper Keylor Navas is also doubtful after straining his hamstring in the quarter final against Atalanta. Idrissa Gueye is out with a thigh injury as well, Marco Verrati looks most likely to replace him. BAYERN MUNICH Bayern have a full strength squad barring a thigh injury to veteran Jerome Boateng who may miss the summit clash.    ...
