The 2019-20 Premier League season has finally ended. It was a roller-coaster ride. At one point it seemed that the season would have been deemed null and void, but Project Restart has been a success. Here are some key takeaways from the just concluded Premier League season(in no particular order) :-
1. Liverpool Champions!
In the 2018-19 season, Liverpool amassed 97 points and still could not win the league. People thought that their motivation would not be there this season but Jurgen Klopp has prepared a winning machine, winning 32 matches. They have been very consistent throughout the season and have won the first Premier League title in the club’s rich history.
2. 2 . Manchester United, Chelsea make top 4
At the beginning of the season,
both teams were in disarray and had managers who were inexperienced at the
highest level. Moreover, Chelsea had a transfer ban imposed on them.
Both teams made the top 4 on the last matchday despite having a topsy-turvy
season. New players such as Pulisic, wan Bissaka and Bruno Fernandes have made
a huge impact while others such as Rashford, Giroud, Willian and Martial have
had good seasons.
3. Sheffield United finish in the
top half
Chris Wilder has built a team, in the truest sense
of the term. With no standout performers, they were tipped to go down by the
bookies but not only did they stay up, but also finished 9th. They
were good defensively, and scored very few. They won 14 matches and surprised
everyone. At one point it seemed they might get into Europe as well, which didn’t
happen but they have massively punched above their weight.
4. Is Brendan Rodgers a verified
Bottler?
He first couldn’t win the league with Liverpool
in the 13-14 season, and now, with Leicester, who were in the Champions League
places for almost the whole season, fail to get top 4. According to us, it is a
bottling but he did better than what was expected of him. Vardy was the shining
light in the Leicester team and won the golden boot. We will see them in the
Europa League next season.
5. Relegation for the Hornets and
the Cherries
While
Norwich have been abysmal, Watford and Bournemouth got relegated in the final
day of the season. Bournemouth didn’t really play well throughout the season and
with the team and manager they have, they can come back up easily. Watford’s sacking
of Nigel Pearson was truly shocking. Without him, they would have been
relegated much earlier. He took the battle to the end and got sacked.
