5 Major Impact Signings

The season was much longer than expected and with the conclusion of the Champions

league we now look forward to the next season with bated breath. Before moving too forward,

let’s have a look at the players who impressed straightaway in their debut season.

  1. Bruno Fernandes

His inclusion in this list was never in doubt, given his outstanding performance ever since

he placed his foot on the Premier League. Manchester United were at 5th place compared

to Leicester’s second and 14 points separated them when Bruno had arrived, fresh from his

consistent exploits at Sporting Lisbon and now he has propelled them to 3rd place leapfrogging

Leicester who finished at 5th. Be it banging goals or creating them, his involvement and dedication

to the game was the highest and indeed brought out the best from his teammates.

  1. Erling Braut Haaland

At some point or the other, he made us believe that goalscoring was a piece of cake for him.

Goals came thick and fast for the tall Norweigan. The teenager rose to fame in the Champions

League scoring goals at will against top clubs and has never looked back since after joining Borussia

Dortmund. His flabbergasting stat of 13 goals and 2 assists in 11 starts is insane which brought

Dortmund hopes of bringing the title home but it seems Bayern were too hot for them.

  1. Danny Ings

He maybe a Liverpool reject who managed a mere 14 appearances in three seasons but

delivered more than enough for the Saints’ and was just one goal shy of the Golden Boot, which

was grabbed by Jamie Vardy for his 23 goals in his first permanent season at Southampton after

spending the previous campaign on loan. A consistent performer throughout, he was the sole reason

behind Southampton’s success in the Premier League.

  1. Christian Pulisic

A vital cog in Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, Pulisic delivered when his team  needed him

the most. Though injuries forced him out for quite some time, he never failed to impress with

his top notch dribbling and finishing skills. He was even better than Hazard when he first arrived

at Chelsea. Pulisic managed 10 goals and 19 assists while Hazard scored 13 goals and same

number of assists although he played 29 more matches, staggering!  One of the many young

bright prospects of Chelsea, he surely will be a key member to Chelsea’s future hopes.

  1. Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku was given marching orders by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer which turned out

to be a blessing in disguise for the big Belgian. He, alongwith Argentine sensation Lautaro

Martinez combined to form one of the most lethal strike forces in Europe. A treat to watch on

his day, he was consistent throughout and is the third highest scorer falling behind only the likes

of Ciro Immobile and Cristiano Ronaldo. Antonio Conte took the best out of him and this turned out

to be the best season of his professional career.

Special Mention

 6.Aaron Wan Bissaka

One of the most consistent performers in this reignited Manchester United squad,

his contribution is way ahead of anyone in his team, defensively. This young 22 year

old full back holds the record for the most number of tackles and blocks in the Premier League.

He settled in no time after coming from Crystal Palace and was the go to man who helped in

fixing the leaky defence which in turn helped them to secure a place in the Champions League.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: 2020-21

It's already been two months since that famous night in Lisbon where Bayern conquered their 2nd treble equalling the record of Barcelona in the process of highest number of trebles.         Now, the group stages has some mouth watering fixtures, the most notable being PSG v/s Man U. After that embarrassing night in Paris where the French outfit lost to a young Man U team even after having a healthy lead in the first leg, PSG have come a long way and were only second to Bayern Munich last time around. PSG have a strong team and their only main concern would be their defence after their long serving captain played his last match in the UCL final. Their forward and midfield line do not have much change and will look forward to carry on the form that they displayed last time around. On the other hand United have plenty of problems from their defence to attack. Their uninspiring captain Maguire has led them down more than once with the attackers struggling ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

EL CLASICO : PREVIEW

As Camp Nou gets ready to host the first Clasico of the season, both clubs in their own rebuilding phase will look to get one over their arch rivals. Both clubs have had rather inconsistent starts to the season, by their lofty standards. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, this fixture has somewhat lost its glory but the political reasons behind the rivalry will continue to fuel this fixture.  FC Barcelona have come from a nightmare season, not winning any trophy and conceding 8 against Bayern Munich. With renewed hope, under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, they have started pretty poorly in La Liga, winning two of their four matches. Although it is very early in the season, Barcelona are languishing at tenth in the table. With all the behind the scenes drama, they have coped pretty well. Lionel Messi will be their star man as usual. Coutinho has done well on his return to the club. Griezmann hasn’t yet found his feet in Catalonia. All eyes would be on Gerrard Pique, who got a red ca...
