CRISIS AT BARCELONA

Messi caused a stir in the footballing world, no not this time for any out of the world goal scored but his future surrounding him after he let know his feelings to the Barcelona board that he no longer wishes to be a part of his boyhood club.

Apart from Messi leaving Barcelona, let’s have a look at the ongoing crisis scenario at FC Barcelona.

  1. MESSI

Well no player is bigger than the club which we always get to see in the football fraternity unless you have a certain Argentine magician in your ranks. Such has been his command in this Barcelona setup. Fans gathered outside the Camp Nou pleading to resign Bartomeu, the club president. While it looks like Bartomeu isn’t going anywhere but what looks more likely is Messi heading in some other way. Yes, he is every right to leave and enjoy his game elsewhere wherein he will not have the burden to drag his team every time. We all saw this decision coming but it has come so thick, fast and quick that it has flabbergasted us. Now what lies ahead is that he should be given a proper farewell for giving so much to the boyhood club. Not any man can ever give what he has done for FC Barcelona. Barcelona are known for treating their players(Real fans sobs in a corner!) well and it is of prime importance that they get the proper treatment, not only for Messi even for Suarez. It will take an article to only describe his achievements so let’s move on to the next one.

  1. LACK OF YOUNG AND MOTIVATED PLAYERS

Without a doubt what Busquets, Alba, Suarez, Pique have done through the years will be difficult to replicate but consistent failures in big stages of the UCL have grabbed eyeballs this time around and there is a dire need to fix their positions as soon as possible. It’s no walk in the park to replace this experienced lot but it is the need of the hour and Barcelona just cannot rely on them until they lose big again in the UCL.

  1. FALLOUT BETWEEN PLAYERS AND BOARD

Messi has been vocal lately making his intentions clear that he no more wanted to hear the blame game from Abidal and asked him to state the names which led to the sacking of Ernesto Valverde when Abidal had vaguely pointed out that it was the players who were adamant on sacking Valverde.

  1. WEIRD TRANSFER DECISIONS

You just can’t get what the Board thinks when it does its signings. It’s going on for years now with out of the blue signings of Kevin Prince Boateng, Martin Braithwaite, Junior Firpo and what not. It is really difficult to decipher what they really want in one of the biggest clubs of World football when they sign below average players in their elite club and even when they have good players, they can never utilise him to  the fullest potential. They loaned Coutinho to Bayern who went out to win the champions league medal. Adding to the wounds, Coutinho scored two and set up 1 in his participation of 15 minutes in the game wherein Bayern drubbed Barcelona. They loaned a player which they brought for 142 million$ and brought Braithwaite, Seriously!!!! Not to forget the most recent blunder of selling the young, talented Brazilian Arthur and spending that on a 30 year old, Pjanic. Just speechless!!

  1. NOT QUICK IN MAKING DECISIONS

The lack of making decisions when situation demands has cost them dearly many a games and possibly titles. After repeated Champions League failures , they were still adamant on keeping Ernesto Valverde and it was not until when they lost against Atletico in the Supercopa de Espana that they thought it was high time Barca need to make changes. Another point is they never really looked to work on the weak areas like the defence. They hardly make bids for a good defender and are always persistent on keeping the same defence. As a result you get to witness why they are conceding that many goals.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: 2020-21

It's already been two months since that famous night in Lisbon where Bayern conquered their 2nd treble equalling the record of Barcelona in the process of highest number of trebles.         Now, the group stages has some mouth watering fixtures, the most notable being PSG v/s Man U. After that embarrassing night in Paris where the French outfit lost to a young Man U team even after having a healthy lead in the first leg, PSG have come a long way and were only second to Bayern Munich last time around. PSG have a strong team and their only main concern would be their defence after their long serving captain played his last match in the UCL final. Their forward and midfield line do not have much change and will look forward to carry on the form that they displayed last time around. On the other hand United have plenty of problems from their defence to attack. Their uninspiring captain Maguire has led them down more than once with the attackers struggling ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

EL CLASICO : PREVIEW

As Camp Nou gets ready to host the first Clasico of the season, both clubs in their own rebuilding phase will look to get one over their arch rivals. Both clubs have had rather inconsistent starts to the season, by their lofty standards. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, this fixture has somewhat lost its glory but the political reasons behind the rivalry will continue to fuel this fixture.  FC Barcelona have come from a nightmare season, not winning any trophy and conceding 8 against Bayern Munich. With renewed hope, under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, they have started pretty poorly in La Liga, winning two of their four matches. Although it is very early in the season, Barcelona are languishing at tenth in the table. With all the behind the scenes drama, they have coped pretty well. Lionel Messi will be their star man as usual. Coutinho has done well on his return to the club. Griezmann hasn’t yet found his feet in Catalonia. All eyes would be on Gerrard Pique, who got a red ca...
