EUROPA TOTY

The UEFA Europa League campaign finally comes to an end, with Sevilla FC claiming the title for the sixth-time. Here is our attempt at making the Europa League Team Of The Year. Narrowing down to 11 players was a tough job. So there were some omisions, players who might have made headlines, but didn't get a place in our eleven.

Comment down to let us know your changes for our team.

GOALKEEPER:

SERGIO ROMERO (MANCHESTER UNITED)

The Argentine goalkeeper was impressive this season, just conceding 2 in his 9 Europa League appearances. With that he kept 7 cleansheets

and claimed the Golden Glove award, just ahead of Sevilla's Yassine Bounou.

DEFENDERS:

RIGHT BACK

JESUS NAVAS (SEVILLA FC)

Navas has been deadly in the right flank throughout the campaign for Sevilla. The 34 year old defender made 6 Europa League appearances, providing twice. His tireless runs along the flank and sheer commitment were noteworthy. The Sevilla skipper has always been leading from the front!

CENTRE-BACKS

JULES KOUNDE (SEVILLA FC)

The 21 year old french youngster was consistent and solid at the back for Sevilla. Kounde appeared 9 times for Sevilla this season, and had a passing accuracy of 93%.

DIEGO GODIN (INTER MILAN)

The 34 year old defender scored once in his 6 Europa League appearances. The Uruguayan made 5 tackles, and has been rock solid in defence for Inter.

LEFTBACK

SERGIO REGUILON (SEVILLA FC)

The young Spanish left back has been brilliant going forward, providing inch perfect crosses to Sevilla's forwards. Reguilon appeared 5 times this season, scoring and providing once. He has been consistent throughout the season, contributing both in attack and defence.

MIDFIELDERS:

FILIP KOSTIC (EINTRACHT FRANKFURT)

The Serbian appeared 10 times for Frankfurt this season, scoring twice and providing thrice. Kostic is known for his pin point set-piece, crosses and vision for passing.

BRUNO FERNANDES (MANCHESTER UNITED)

Racking up ten appearances in the competition split equally across the group stage with Sporting CP and knockout phase with Manchester United, Fernandes was a star performer throughout. The Portuguese scored 8 to claim the golden boot alongside the Player of the Tournament award.

EVER BANEGA (SEVILLA FC)

The Argentine was outstanding this season. Banega managed to pull up 3 assists in his 7 appearances. He has the ability to read and control the temper of the match.Contributing both in attack and defence, he was indeed the nucleus of Sevilla's midfield.

FORWARDS:

RAUL JIMENEZ (WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS)

The Mexican target-man has scored 4 goals and set up 3 in 9 appearances for Wolves. He can score with both feet and his head, which makes him a lethal forward.

ALFREDO MORELOS (RANGERS FC)

The Colombian forward has scored six goals and provided once in 9 matches. Morelos has been the main outlet for goals for Rangers this season.

ROMELU LUKAKU (INTER MILAN)

The Belgian appeared six times for Inter this season, scoring 7 times and providing twice. He missed the Golden Boot by just 1 goal to Bruno Fernandes.

Lukaku is strong, good in air and has an eye for goal which makes him a deadly target-man. Lukaku delivered whenever Inter needed goals. Overall, Lukaku had an outstanding season. Yes, the bizarre touch by him which led to the winner for Sevilla was disappointing but we can't take anything away from the proven goalscorer.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: 2020-21

It's already been two months since that famous night in Lisbon where Bayern conquered their 2nd treble equalling the record of Barcelona in the process of highest number of trebles.         Now, the group stages has some mouth watering fixtures, the most notable being PSG v/s Man U. After that embarrassing night in Paris where the French outfit lost to a young Man U team even after having a healthy lead in the first leg, PSG have come a long way and were only second to Bayern Munich last time around. PSG have a strong team and their only main concern would be their defence after their long serving captain played his last match in the UCL final. Their forward and midfield line do not have much change and will look forward to carry on the form that they displayed last time around. On the other hand United have plenty of problems from their defence to attack. Their uninspiring captain Maguire has led them down more than once with the attackers struggling ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

EL CLASICO : PREVIEW

As Camp Nou gets ready to host the first Clasico of the season, both clubs in their own rebuilding phase will look to get one over their arch rivals. Both clubs have had rather inconsistent starts to the season, by their lofty standards. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, this fixture has somewhat lost its glory but the political reasons behind the rivalry will continue to fuel this fixture.  FC Barcelona have come from a nightmare season, not winning any trophy and conceding 8 against Bayern Munich. With renewed hope, under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, they have started pretty poorly in La Liga, winning two of their four matches. Although it is very early in the season, Barcelona are languishing at tenth in the table. With all the behind the scenes drama, they have coped pretty well. Lionel Messi will be their star man as usual. Coutinho has done well on his return to the club. Griezmann hasn’t yet found his feet in Catalonia. All eyes would be on Gerrard Pique, who got a red ca...
