Ever since Pep was brought at the helm of the Manchester club, the Qatari owners have had blind faith in him and he was offered the liberty to spend according to his wishes and budget was never a constraint. They spent a whopping 601.98m euros. What’s surprising is that their nearest rivals in terms of overall spending , Manchester United spent nearly 484.8m, more than 100m euros less. There’s no denying the fact that they performed exceptionally in the Premier League and it was this season that they were comprehensively the second best side in England after a dominant performance by Liverpool. Fans and pundits often argue that with the kind of resources they have at their disposal, it is obvious and a necessity to win everything and not winning must be a sort of embarrassment. While they have been consistent in the Premier League, they never came close to the coveted Champions League even after so many seasons.
Not one transfer window has passed in which City were not busy even if it meant signing on less known players at a heavy price, the most recent one being Nathan Ake who City signed from Bournemouth. This decision is questionable as Bournemouth being relegated last season around, the 41m euros is too heavy a price for the 25 year old defender. They also earlier had brought John Stones from Everton at a then highest price for a defender who now only warms the bench more often than he is on the pitch.
Now we can patiently wait and watch if Pep can win the Champions League again with his current lot of players or he needs some more buys to ultimately lay hands on the prestigious trophy.
