Manchester City have, so far, not done much in the transfer window by their standards. One might have expected them to spend loads of money after being dominated by Liverpool in the Premier League and bowing out of the quarter-finals of the Champions League . But, they haven’t. They have invested for the future. Let us have a look at the two confirmed transfers for Manchester City at the time of writing.
NATHAN AKE
Nathan Ake got relegated with Bournemouth last season. It is a bit odd that a club the size of Manchester City are trying to solve their Centre-Back crisis by shopping at a relegated club. But actually, there are a number of good reasons for this move. The 25-year old Dutch defender is a good ball playing centre-back. With Eric Garcia not extending his contract, Manchester City have got a solid defender in their ranks, one who is young as well. Ake can also be deployed at left back, a perennial Achilles Heel for the Manchester club. His versatility makes him a great fit at the club. Is he worth £41m? Maybe not currently but with time, this deal might look to be a bargain.
FERRAN TORRES
The Spanish club Valencia are in a state of disarray right now and have flocked out their best players. The 20-year old winger from Spain is another long term signing. After Leroy Sane left, there has been a gaping hole in Manchester City’s wings. Riyad Mahrez isn't the first choice while Bernardo Silva’s current form isn’t inspiring. The inclusion of Ferran Torres may not improve the team at the moment but with the promise and potential he has, he can make it big in blue.
Manchester City are busy plugging their gaps, and to be very honest, they have done a good job. These are smart moves, and ones which can pay rich dividends in the years to come.
