Timo Werner has been a brilliant addition to Chelsea’s attack. He scored Chelsea’s first pre-season goal against Brighton. He also got an assist at the Amex when Chelsea overcame Brighton 1-3 in their first Premier League outing.
His workrate is just second to none. In the match against Liverpool, he did not have much support. In the beginning, he was looking to strike up a partnership with Kai Havertz, which wasn’t very successful. In the second half, he was completely isolated but he did not stop running and working hard. Initially, Fabinho defended him quite well and stopped him in his tracks. We have seen players after having a tough time initially, giving up.
Werner, for all his good work, won a penalty late in the second half, which was saved by Allison from Jorginho. He is the most dangerous when he starts on the left and drifts in, attacking the defence and scoring goals. Lampard needs someone like Ziyech to control the game from midfield, and Chelsea also need a forward player who can help Werner up-front. The Timo Werner show has arrived in West London.
