UEFA Super Cup 2020: Preview

FC Bayern Munich of Germany will battle it out with Sevilla from Spain for the UEFA Super Cup crown at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary. This is a one-match competition played between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. Bayern defeated Paris Saint Germain in Lisbon while Sevilla defeated Inter Milan in Germany to win the Champions League and Europa League respectively.

Bayern will start as favourites as they have a team, brimming with talent and even more potential. Under Hansi Flick, Bayern have been a force to reckon with, winning the Champions League quite comfortably. In the summer they bought in Leroy Sane, one of the best German wingers. With Mueller, Lewandowski and Gnabry Bayern have the most lethal and in form strike force in Europe. They destroyed Schalke 04 in the weekend. They also have a good defence and with Manuel Neuer in between the sticks, Bayern are in safe hands.

Sevilla on the other hand have always done well in Europe’s second tier competition. Whilst they aren’t a top quality side as Bayern, they do have a good team with players like Ever Banega and Ocampos. It would be good to see how Julen Lopetegui sets his side up to stop the attackers of Bayern. Anthony Taylor will referee the game at Budapest. It has the potential to be a good match-up because we have seen Sevilla not getting overwhelmed by the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. They might be underdogs, but they aren’t pushovers.

Manchester United VS Chelsea : Preview

Manchester United welcome Chelsea to the Theatre of Dreams. This fixture brings back memories of Frank Lampard’s first match as Chelsea manager when Ole’s reds smashed the blues 4-0. A lot has happened since for both teams but the circumstances leading up to the game are somewhat similar. Manchester United are inconsistent as they had been. Similarly, Chelsea are a team which is trying to find their feet and sort themselves out.  Manchester United, in their midweek Champions League clash against Paris Saint Germain, won via a late Marcus Rashford goal(yes, again!). Manchester United have been wildly inconsistent in the Premier League so far, and have not won two games in a row. They destroyed Newcastle 4-1 at St. James’s Park in their last match but in their previous fixture, Tottenham decimated them 6-1 at home. Their defence, which has been suspect even after expensive reinforcements, somehow conceded only one goal at the hands of Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria, which ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL : PREVIEW

Bayern Munich and PSG meet in Europe's most prestigious competition final in Lisbon on Sunday. Both teams having won all domestic crowns on offer, are gunning to flaunt an illustrious treble for the season. With both squads bragging such destructive attacking talent, the game might be decided by the team who defends better. A first Champions League final for PSG, who seem to finally reap the dividends of spending millions, against an accomplished Bayern side, looking for their 6th Champions League, the stage is set for a jaw dropping game. PLAYERS TO MISS OUT PSG Laywin Kurzawa is still out due to a thigh injury. First choice keeper Keylor Navas is also doubtful after straining his hamstring in the quarter final against Atalanta. Idrissa Gueye is out with a thigh injury as well, Marco Verrati looks most likely to replace him. BAYERN MUNICH Bayern have a full strength squad barring a thigh injury to veteran Jerome Boateng who may miss the summit clash.    ...
