Manchester City begin their Premier League campaign against Nuno’s Wolves aiming to regain the title from Liverpool. Wolves are no pushovers and have performed consistently ever since they gained promotion from the Championship and have remained in the top 8 mostly. Their first game saw them winning 2-0 against Sheffield United, who themselves have impressed after coming through the ranks of the Championship. Wolves’ top scorer Raul Jimenez was again on target and the other goal coming from the Moroccon captain Romain Saiss.
It will be interesting how Pep makes his team lineup after the departure of David Silva and whether new arrivals Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake will get a chance in the first team. Sergio Aguero is still recovering from the knee injury sustained in June against Burnley. While Mahrez is fully fit after recovering from Covid 19, Laporte is still not back to full fitness and his participation is in limbo. Kyle Walker is certain to start in Right back position along with De Bruyne, Rodri and Gundogan most preferably. Not much is known about Benjamin Mendy’s fitness which means if he is not fully fit, Joao Cancelo will have to do the left back duties, which is not his usual position but he has responded to Pep’s demands very well.
Wolves are brimming with confidence and will look forward to carry the momentum from their first win of the Premier League campaign and look forward to come back after losing against Championship side Stoke City in the Carabao Cup second round, thanks to a goal from Jacob Brown in the 86th minute. Manchester City on the other hand cannot afford to lose or even draw as their primary rivals Liverpool have already recorded two wins from two. True that Premier League has just started but an early lead from Liverpool would keep City on the back foot.
Premier League has already turned on the heat with thrilling matches of Leeds, Spurs, Everton and we just can’t wait to see Manchester City add more flavour to it.
