On paper, it looks like a match between the sides wherein one team was the Champions for two times in the last three years and a newly promoted side plying their trade in the Premier League after 16 long years but football fans all around the globe know it is much more than that. Leeds have already announced their arrival in the Premier League against the Champions where they narrowly missed out on what would have been a famous draw at Anfield, all thanks to a casual last gasp foul by new signing, Rodrigo on Fabinho which was coolly converted by Salah with the match finishing 4-3 in favour of Liverpool. The next match against Fulham saw a similar scoreline but fortunately Leeds were on the winning end this time around. Patrick Bamford grabbed headlines by scoring a 88th minute winner in the Yorkshire derby. Their style of attacking football has caught the eye of many and Marcelo Bielsa is no doubt the architect of it, After just missing out on Premier League last time around, Leeds were more than ready to compete in the English top flight and are now performing very well which should come as no surprise given Bielsa is a proven winner. Taking a team from 13th position to 3rd in only his first season and only in the second year of his stint, he brought the famous team to the Premier League.
As for City, things are not too promising after the hammering by Foxes in the Etihad. After so many options also, Guardiola doesn’t seem to have found out the right chords. We all know how Pep has spent heavily on defenders in the current seasons. In times of crisis also, City managed to spend over 100m euros only on defenders. What’s worrying for City was all three defenders except new signing conceded penalties which ultimately saw the result tilt in Leicester’s favour. Nathan Ake grabbed a goal which should somewhat be of relief to Pep. Another new signing Ferran Torres impressed in their EFL cup match and was heavily involved throughout the match which augurs well for City. With the kind of options available at Pep disposal, Pep may try a new combination or stick to the previous one against the coach he admires so much. One thing is for sure, this is no normal game and many goals are expected at the Elland Road.
