Europa League spots: From all angles

Europa League quarter final draw Live: how and where to watch - AS.com

How do things stand in the race for the Europa league for Premier League Clubs.

Manchester City's triumph in the Carabao cup means that the team finishing sixth in the league table would get a slot in the Europa league.

If Man United defeats Leicester and Chelsea suffer a loss against Wolves, Leicester would qualify for Europa alongside Wolves.

A win for Leicester, Chelsea and Tottenham means Man United will have to play Europa alongside Tottenham ruling out the likes of Wolves.

A FA Cup triumph for Chelsea means both Wolves and  Spurs would qualify for the Europa league alongside either Chelsea, United or Leicester.

A win for Arsenal against Chelsea in the FA Cup finals will secure them a place in the Europa for the next season.

Another likely scenario is if Man United finishes fifth and wins Europa, and Chelsea finishes fourth and wins FA Cup, then the team holding the eight spot will get a slot for the Europa league. Currently Sheffield United , Arsenal and Burnely are the contenders for the eight spot.

Manchester United VS Chelsea : Preview

Manchester United welcome Chelsea to the Theatre of Dreams. This fixture brings back memories of Frank Lampard’s first match as Chelsea manager when Ole’s reds smashed the blues 4-0. A lot has happened since for both teams but the circumstances leading up to the game are somewhat similar. Manchester United are inconsistent as they had been. Similarly, Chelsea are a team which is trying to find their feet and sort themselves out.  Manchester United, in their midweek Champions League clash against Paris Saint Germain, won via a late Marcus Rashford goal(yes, again!). Manchester United have been wildly inconsistent in the Premier League so far, and have not won two games in a row. They destroyed Newcastle 4-1 at St. James’s Park in their last match but in their previous fixture, Tottenham decimated them 6-1 at home. Their defence, which has been suspect even after expensive reinforcements, somehow conceded only one goal at the hands of Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria, which ...

Mohun Bagan: The Champions of I-League

Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, one of the oldest clubs in Asia in the space of a calendar year, transformed subpar performances and doubt into victory and jubilation. A script, so perfectly written, that they won the I-League title in the last match before the lockdown was imposed. I remember reading a newspaper article just before the first Calcutta Football League derby, about how rivals East Bengal were the much better side and the fact that Mohun Bagan could only pin their hopes on Spaniard Joseba Beitia if they had to get anything out of the game. In front of a full-house at the Salt Lake Stadium, the Mariners turned in a performance which gave confidence to the fans. They drew the match but created chances at will. This performance made the fans believe.  The managerial genius, that was Kibu Vicuna worked wonders with players like Joseba Beita, Fran Gonzalez, Fran Morante, Papa Diawara, Komron Tursonov and the Indian players. They created magic on the pitch. They stuck to possessi...

History of the FA Community Shield

Now that there are now not many games round the corner, we decided to take a glimpse at the history of the Community Shield. The Community Shield is played between the winners of the Premier League and the winners of the FA cup of the previous season and marks the first trophy of the long season that is to be played ahead.  Well if both are triumphed by a single club, the runner up in the Premier League happens to be the opposition. It is more charity oriented rather than just business as the game proceeds are distributed to the charities and community initiatives. The history goes back to 1898 when it was first played between the professionals and the amateurs. The first official match was played between Manchester United and the Queens Park Rangers where it was known as the Sheriff of London Charity Shield.     While you may wonder that rules must remain the same, yeah they are except for a few exceptions like the teams are allowed a maximum of 6 substitutions ...
