Chelsea: The winners of the Transfer Window

The transfer market opened on the 27th of July and since then, there has been one team which has strengthened itself and will have a totally different look come next season. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea backed by Roman Abramovic’s cash have upgraded in almost each position where they seemed lacking last season.

Let us start with their weaknesses last season. Their most obvious problematic area was their defence. Apart from Reece James and club captain Azpilicueta, the others had a season to forget. Chelsea needed a new centre back and a left back at the minimum. Then, they lacked a creative midfielder. Although Mount was there, he wasn’t consistent enough. Willian and Pedro were amazing servants for the club but they had to be upgraded as they were getting older.

So, first let us look at centre backs. Chelsea signed Paris Saint Germain captain and Champions League finalist Thiago Silva on a one year deal. They also signed upcoming French defender Malang Saar from Nice on a free and gave him a five year contract. Although Silva isn’t a long term solution to their problems but atleast for a season, with Champions League football, he will be an asset to the club. Saar on the other hand will be expected to nail down a starting spot for years to come.

Leicester City Confirm Transfer Of Ben Chilwell To Chelsea

Chelsea then went on and signed Ben Chilwell for fifty million pounds from Leicester. Needless to say, he is a huge upgrade on both Marcos Alonso and Emerson. The Left Back position was always a problem for Chelsea since the departure of Ashley Cole and they seemed to have plugged the gap now with arguably England's best Left Back at the moment.

Timo Werner thanks Frank Lampard for bringing him to Chelsea; wants to be part of 'new era'

Going up front, Chelsea have bought in Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, who is a winger with an eye for goal. Werner’s addition is more like when Chelsea bought Pedro from Barcelona, a pacy winger with a goal scoring instinct. He is essentially an upgrade on either of Pedro or Willian. They also bought Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.He can play both as a winger and as a creative number 10. He will help unlock defenses from midfield and also has the capability to score worldies with his brilliant left foot.

The most important part is that they have sold Willian and Pedro, getting them off the wage bill. This is the reason why we feel that Chelsea are the winners of this Transfer Window. With rumors of Jan Oblak and Kai Havertz doing the rounds, we feel that Chelsea still have won the window.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: 2020-21

It's already been two months since that famous night in Lisbon where Bayern conquered their 2nd treble equalling the record of Barcelona in the process of highest number of trebles.         Now, the group stages has some mouth watering fixtures, the most notable being PSG v/s Man U. After that embarrassing night in Paris where the French outfit lost to a young Man U team even after having a healthy lead in the first leg, PSG have come a long way and were only second to Bayern Munich last time around. PSG have a strong team and their only main concern would be their defence after their long serving captain played his last match in the UCL final. Their forward and midfield line do not have much change and will look forward to carry on the form that they displayed last time around. On the other hand United have plenty of problems from their defence to attack. Their uninspiring captain Maguire has led them down more than once with the attackers struggling ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

EL CLASICO : PREVIEW

As Camp Nou gets ready to host the first Clasico of the season, both clubs in their own rebuilding phase will look to get one over their arch rivals. Both clubs have had rather inconsistent starts to the season, by their lofty standards. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, this fixture has somewhat lost its glory but the political reasons behind the rivalry will continue to fuel this fixture.  FC Barcelona have come from a nightmare season, not winning any trophy and conceding 8 against Bayern Munich. With renewed hope, under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, they have started pretty poorly in La Liga, winning two of their four matches. Although it is very early in the season, Barcelona are languishing at tenth in the table. With all the behind the scenes drama, they have coped pretty well. Lionel Messi will be their star man as usual. Coutinho has done well on his return to the club. Griezmann hasn’t yet found his feet in Catalonia. All eyes would be on Gerrard Pique, who got a red ca...
