FA Community Shield 2020 : PREVIEW

The FA Community Shield marks the beginning of the new season in England. It is a match played at Wembley between the winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup of the previous season. Liverpool steamrolled the Premier League last season while Arsenal capped off a poor season with the FA Cup trophy. They will face off on the 29th of August, with the first title of the season at stake.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

ARSENAL

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang

Arsenal’s Gabonese superstar will look to find the back of the net in yet another final. He has been the shining light for Arsenal and has stepped up in big games. At his brilliant best, he is unstoppable. He will look to start the season with a bang.

Kieren Tierney

The Scottish left back was signed last season. His impressive performances at the end of the 19-20 season have made him one of the most consistent players for the Gunners. He has proven to be very solid defensively, somewhat fixing a leaky Arsenal defence. He is decent going forward as well.

LIVERPOOL

Mohammed Salah

The Egyptian king will be ready to wreak havoc down the left wing. His pace and creativity would be instrumental for Jurgen Klopp’s side. He will surely look to improve on last season, which wasn’t his best season(statistically). He will look to expose the Arsenal defence and add another title to his name.

Joe Gomez

After Virgil van Dijk’s injury in the pre-season friendly against RB Salsburg, the English centre half will have to assume leadership of the defence(although van Dijk isn’t completely ruled out). Even if the Dutchman is there, Gomez will be pivotal for the Reds as Aubameyang will attack through that channel and he’d have to be on his toes to stop Arsenal’s main man.

PREVIEW

Liverpool are far superior to Arsenal as a unit but the presence of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang will cause problems for the Liverpool defence. Moreover, Liverpool had lost at the Emirates at the end of last season. Although the credibility of the loss is in question as Liverpool had already won the league and were casual in their approach, which resulted in errors. With Rhian Brewster lighting up Liverpool’s pre season camp, he will be a good option off the bench for Liverpool. A cracker of a match awaits us.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: 2020-21

It's already been two months since that famous night in Lisbon where Bayern conquered their 2nd treble equalling the record of Barcelona in the process of highest number of trebles.         Now, the group stages has some mouth watering fixtures, the most notable being PSG v/s Man U. After that embarrassing night in Paris where the French outfit lost to a young Man U team even after having a healthy lead in the first leg, PSG have come a long way and were only second to Bayern Munich last time around. PSG have a strong team and their only main concern would be their defence after their long serving captain played his last match in the UCL final. Their forward and midfield line do not have much change and will look forward to carry on the form that they displayed last time around. On the other hand United have plenty of problems from their defence to attack. Their uninspiring captain Maguire has led them down more than once with the attackers struggling ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

Barcelona V/S Napoli : Preview

With the dishonour of going trophyless for the first time since 2007-08 looming large, winning the UCL after 5 years will easily rub off the pain of not winning the La liga and their below par performances during the later stages of the competition, over the years. Having said that, the task on hand is no piece of cake as they face a stubborn Napoli side, inspired by Gennaro Gattuso who can outrival any side on their day. Their strike force is deadly to say the least. Insigne, Mertens, Lozano, Milik, Callejon, Politano can wreck havoc across defences, more so when Barca has a very poor record defensively of late. Napoli  had the most possession(59%) and the most passes in the Serie A, were the Coppa Italia champions and they were the unbeaten team in their group despite being on the same pool with defending champions, Liverpool.  Players missing out- FC Barcelona Missing out influential midfielder, Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal through suspension will be a cause of headach...
