James Rodriguez : Transforming Everton

Normally in the present scenario when Liverpool is mentioned it’s no rocket science to get our mind revolving around Jurgen Klopp’s men who have performed exceptionally during the last couple of years. Well, for now the other not so big club from Liverpool, Everton have also caught the eye of many with their style mainly after the arrival of Colombian talisman, James Rodrigues. It's no secret that Carlio Ancelotti has a soft corner for James and manages to lure him to every club he manages as both had shared the dressing room in Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and now Everton and it is now slowly becoming clear why he rated the 2014 World Cup top goalscorer so highly.

Everton now have a game plan which revolves around James with the midfielder impressing straightaway after arriving from Real Madrid. His curlers, long rangers, exquisite passes all were well known to many and after arriving in Premier League he is impressing even more as he plays more freely away from any burden and it is paying dividends. Not to forget Dominic Calvert Lewin, he has been another vital performer for Everton who has turned the ball into the net almost every time he got the ball in front of the goal. Brazilian Richarlison has also been tremendous and their performances has led them to the top of the table with three wins from three including a win over Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.

Well only time will tell if they can continue with their present form and if they can finish in the top six. There’s no depth in the team with recent midfield additions, James, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. So let’s wait and watch whether the Liverpool minnows can rise again.

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

Barcelona V/S Napoli : Preview

With the dishonour of going trophyless for the first time since 2007-08 looming large, winning the UCL after 5 years will easily rub off the pain of not winning the La liga and their below par performances during the later stages of the competition, over the years. Having said that, the task on hand is no piece of cake as they face a stubborn Napoli side, inspired by Gennaro Gattuso who can outrival any side on their day. Their strike force is deadly to say the least. Insigne, Mertens, Lozano, Milik, Callejon, Politano can wreck havoc across defences, more so when Barca has a very poor record defensively of late. Napoli  had the most possession(59%) and the most passes in the Serie A, were the Coppa Italia champions and they were the unbeaten team in their group despite being on the same pool with defending champions, Liverpool.  Players missing out- FC Barcelona Missing out influential midfielder, Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal through suspension will be a cause of headach...

EL CLASICO : PREVIEW

As Camp Nou gets ready to host the first Clasico of the season, both clubs in their own rebuilding phase will look to get one over their arch rivals. Both clubs have had rather inconsistent starts to the season, by their lofty standards. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, this fixture has somewhat lost its glory but the political reasons behind the rivalry will continue to fuel this fixture.  FC Barcelona have come from a nightmare season, not winning any trophy and conceding 8 against Bayern Munich. With renewed hope, under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, they have started pretty poorly in La Liga, winning two of their four matches. Although it is very early in the season, Barcelona are languishing at tenth in the table. With all the behind the scenes drama, they have coped pretty well. Lionel Messi will be their star man as usual. Coutinho has done well on his return to the club. Griezmann hasn’t yet found his feet in Catalonia. All eyes would be on Gerrard Pique, who got a red ca...
