UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW 2020-21

The UEFA Champions League draw was conducted on 1st October, and some mouthwatering fixtures lie ahead of us. Let us have a look at the groups.

GROUP A

Group A pits FC Bayern Munich against Atletico de Madrid. Will we see a defensive masterclass from Simeone or will Flick’s Bayern run away with it? It would be a great match. The presence of Luis Suarez adds a bit of the revenge element to the game. Salzburg and Locomotiv are not expected to qualify for the knockouts but they will fight it out for the Europa League spot. But in football, surprises ain’t far away.

GROUP B

Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan and Borussia Monchengladbach make up group B. This is a very exciting group. Achraf Hakimi will face his former side. The fight for 2nd place should go down to the sixth matchday with the pedigree of teams in here.

GROUP C

Porto, Manchester City, Olympiacos and Marseille are in Group C. Manchester City should win this group. The fight for second and third(Europa League place) would be a tough one. The return of Marseille sounds exciting.

GROUP D

Liverpool, Ajax, Atalanta and Midtjylland are the teams which will compete in Group D. Liverpool should be favourites to win this group. Atalanta have kept their best players, and can be expected to do well again. Ajax are a club with history but they don’t really have the players this time around.

GROUP E

Europa League winners Sevilla will face Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in this group. Camavingas’s Reness are also there in this group. FC Krasnodar have qualified for the group stage again.

GROUP F

Dortmund, Zenit, Lazio and Brugge will play in for group F glory. Immobile will face his former side. Brugge is the only team from the Belgian League in the Champions League group stage.

Zenit St. Petersberg will look to leave an impact this year.

GROUP G

The big one. The creme de la creme. Messi VS Ronaldo. Barcelona VS Juventus. This match will stop time. Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros from Ukraine and Hungary make up Group G.

GROUP H

Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United face off again, but this time in the group stage. RB Leipzig had a great season last time around and would be expected to do well again. Istanbul Basaksehier are a new team but they have good players and they aren’t here to make up the numbers.

Manchester United VS Chelsea : Preview

Manchester United welcome Chelsea to the Theatre of Dreams. This fixture brings back memories of Frank Lampard’s first match as Chelsea manager when Ole’s reds smashed the blues 4-0. A lot has happened since for both teams but the circumstances leading up to the game are somewhat similar. Manchester United are inconsistent as they had been. Similarly, Chelsea are a team which is trying to find their feet and sort themselves out.  Manchester United, in their midweek Champions League clash against Paris Saint Germain, won via a late Marcus Rashford goal(yes, again!). Manchester United have been wildly inconsistent in the Premier League so far, and have not won two games in a row. They destroyed Newcastle 4-1 at St. James’s Park in their last match but in their previous fixture, Tottenham decimated them 6-1 at home. Their defence, which has been suspect even after expensive reinforcements, somehow conceded only one goal at the hands of Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria, which ...

VAR: Boon or Bane?

Ever since its introduction, VAR has sparked controversies all around the globe. While it was believed before its introduction that it would reduce the human errors and provide the referees a second chance to rectify their mistakes, it now has left us pondering whether technology intervention was required in the first place.      The good point is that no foul committed can possibly go unnoticed but the disadvantages are far more with the most disturbing being it stops the flow of the game every now and then and this doesn’t augur well for the beautiful game as the frequent stoppages are disturbing both for the players and the audiences. By this time, we already know there have been a record number of penalties awarded in this season’s Premier League and credit goes to VAR for awarding them without much hesitation. For the first time ever we saw a team score after the final whistle. Yes, you heard that right. Manchester United’ s game against Brighton was completed...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL : PREVIEW

Bayern Munich and PSG meet in Europe's most prestigious competition final in Lisbon on Sunday. Both teams having won all domestic crowns on offer, are gunning to flaunt an illustrious treble for the season. With both squads bragging such destructive attacking talent, the game might be decided by the team who defends better. A first Champions League final for PSG, who seem to finally reap the dividends of spending millions, against an accomplished Bayern side, looking for their 6th Champions League, the stage is set for a jaw dropping game. PLAYERS TO MISS OUT PSG Laywin Kurzawa is still out due to a thigh injury. First choice keeper Keylor Navas is also doubtful after straining his hamstring in the quarter final against Atalanta. Idrissa Gueye is out with a thigh injury as well, Marco Verrati looks most likely to replace him. BAYERN MUNICH Bayern have a full strength squad barring a thigh injury to veteran Jerome Boateng who may miss the summit clash.    ...
